The Trust's recent, current and future activities include
  • Discussion meetings :
  • 2007 A discussion entitled 'Just what are European values? introduced by Rev Keith Clements, Sir Peter Marshall and Professor Maurice Fraser was held at the EU Representation in London on 15 February. Report available shortly on request.
  • 2006: A series of six discussion meetings on Countering Terrorism in Europe: the enemy from afar or the enemy within? was set up jointly with the IISS, starting with a meeting entitled 'The Threat of Terrorism  Today' on 31st March . The second, entitled Religion and European Terrorism was held on May 25th. The third, on 'The Evolving Tactics of Terrorism' was held on July 6th (reports available on request).
  • 2005: Meetings held in 2005 included a review of the report on proposals for UN reform by the High Level Panel appointed by Kofi Annan (1.02.05) with introductory speakers Lord Hannay and Bill Newton Dunn MEP. This was followed by one on  Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia: Two Sides of the Same Coin?addressed by Imam Dr Abduljalil Sajid and Sir Sigmund Sternberg,held on 7th April 2005. In the series on European issues, Dr Denis MacShane MP and Richard Corbett MEP examined the challenges for the UK Presidency of the EU on 10th October. For further details contact the Secretary.
  • Lectures: The Corbishley Lecture for 2005 on 'the Nature and Limits of Intercultural Dialogue' was given by Lord Bhiku Parekh on 1st November at St. Ethelburga's Centre in Bishopsgate. The Charlemagne Lecture for 2006 will be given on 22 November by Peter Sutherland on 'Europe's Place in the World of the 21st Century', at LSE in cooperation with its European Institute. The Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor will give the 2007 lecture (30th in the series) on 28th March at Westminster Cathedral Hall.   • Conference: The EU: Culturally Vibrant but politically stagnant? A conference which was scheduled to be organised in collaboration with Goodenough College, London WC1  on 1/2 September 2006, but has now been deferred. It will now be held under the title 'What can Cultural Europe do for Political Europe? at Sarum College on 20/21 October 2007.
