| Thomas Corbishley Lectures
Thomas Corbishley Lectures: This series was inaugurated in 1977 by the Wyndham Place Trust in honour of one of its founders. The long list of distinguished lecturers includes von Weizsäcker, Sadruddin Aga Khan, Abba Eban, Shridrath Ramphal, John Hapgood, Brian Urquhart and Trevor Huddleston. In recent years, the lectures have dealt with Macedonia (Robin O'Neill), Ireland (John Hume), the Council of Europe (Russell Johnston) the role of NGOs (Grigor McClelland), Justice and Revenge: International Law after September 11th (Geoffrey Robertson, QC), Sustaining Dialogue in Multicultural Societies (Ram Gidoomal), Cyprus (Lord Hannay of Chiswick). The last lecture was given by Lord Bhikhu Parekh on 'The Limits of Multicultural Dialogue. The next Corbishley Lecture will be given by Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor in March 2007, on the theme of Religion and Public Life. Charlemagne Lectures deal with more specifically with European topics. They have covered historical consciousness in West and Eastern Europe (Juergen Kocka), unemployment and the European social model (Andrew Britton), partition in Poland (Adam Galos), ethics and diplomacy (Michael Palliser), The Future of Europe: A View from the Praesidium (Ms Gisela Stuart MP), environmental issues (Mr John Gummer MP) and Timothy Garton Ash on the theme 'Are you a European?'. The lecturer for 2006 is Peter Sutherland who addresses the topic 'Europe's Role in the World of the 21st Century' in November 2006.
